Addiction is not “bad behavior.” The American Society of Addiction Medicine has defined addiction as a chronic brain disease that results in compulsive and self-destructive behavior. Understanding the addicted brain helps us move from blame and frustration to compassion and hope. This presentation shows what happens to a brain when someone abuses alcohol or drugs, and what we can do to help them get well.
